Dr. B. Lynn M. Williams
Covid has really had an impact on us as individuals, as a community, and as a country. This is true all over the world. People's lives have felt unmoored - some more than others. As a result fears have emerged and concerns and doubts that were not apparent or experienced before Covid. It has been my experience as a practitioner of Mental Health Services that sleep issues have increased as well as depression, anxiety, irritability, and especially the ability to focus and concentrate. It is my goal to help my patients feel safe, secure, and hopeful about their future utilizing medication management, alternative techniques and regular therapy. If a patient already has a therapist then I work in collaboration with their therapist (if the patient so chooses) while providing the medication piece.
I have extensive experience in working with ADHD in both children, adolescents, and adults. Roughly 80%-85% of my work for the past 7 years has been with children and adolescents. I also have long-term experience in working with Mood Disorders, Anxiety, Obesity, Binge Eating, Addiction issues, and patients who are eligible for or have undergone Bariatric Surgery. I completed my Internship and Post-Doctoral at the Hazelden/Betty Ford Treatment Center over a 25 month period in 2006. In addition, I have conducted in excess of 700 Bariatric Surgery Evaluations.
As a licensed and Board-Certified Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner as well as a Clinical Psychologist I am able to partner with my clients in a collaborative relationship to help them achieve maximum emotional health. My therapy approach is eclectic and depends on client needs. As a Board-Certified Family Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner I am able to prescribe psychiatric medications and controlled substances for my clients in the following States where I am licensed: Florida and Iowa. I am also licensed in Arizona, Virginia, Minnesota, and Washington State to prescribe psychiatric medications, but I currently only have a DEA# for Schedule II-V controlled medications in Iowa and Florida. A Family Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner is able to prescribe psychiatric medications for persons of all ages from children up to the elderly. My dual licensure affords me a broader scope of practice which allows me to work with my clients to achieve the optimum quality of life and emotional stabilization for my clients.
I also respect the FDA guidelines when prescribing psychotropic medications for clients adjusting for age appropriateness and the overall health of each patient.
Please note that I do not prescribe benzodiazepines or benzodiazepine type medications such a Xanax, Ativan, Klonopin, Lunesta, or Ambien EXCEPT for very brief time periods and under certain circumstances.
